Everything that connects to the back of a tractor II: PTO part 1
Переглядів 1,3 тис.5 років тому
This is the second video in a series on everything that connects to the back of a tractor. The first video was on a 3 point hitch. This describes the PTO (power take off). PTO is complex so I will need more videos on it before I move to other connections. One mistake to correct: PTO shaft is rated with series and not class.
Taking down and putting up attic stairs with 10 foot ceiling.

The strength of brazing

How to remove mill scale
Переглядів 26 тис.10 років тому
I show how to safely and effectively remove millscale from a 4 foot long piece of square tubing using a minimal amount of muriatic acid and minimizing my exposure to the acid. For thicker pieces just use a larger diameter PVC tubing.
Naked Flag Runner
Переглядів 14 тис.15 років тому
I ran the flag in World of Warcraft in Warsong Gulch in my underwear and carrying a fishing pole. Not quite naked but close enough. Ran right through the Horde and made as much fun of them as I could. I hope you like it.

    We added an extra brace to place under the bottom hinge area for support, our wooden steps gave out from use, and we replaced with metal, and decided the brace gave the extra support that was needed to maintain the structure. I also made a box system and a harbor freight hoist to take large heavy things up and down like a sled.

    I think vinegar over night soak or Vinegar & salt electrolysis if you need speed are way easier & safer and you don't have to deal with the handling of the waste HCL, most towns in my area only accept the waste once a year and limited quantity. Good video, many of your ideas can be used for the other two processes I mentioned, I especially like the use of the PVC pipe as a tank to hold the chemicals submersion.

    Thanks UA-cam algorithm for recommending this! A great idea to minimize the amount of acid and increase safety. If you just rinse the metal after etching and spray it with Krud Kutter rust inhibitor it will have a coating of iron phosphate and won't rust. It's also a good idea to hose down the steel with Simple Green or equivalent before etching to cut any oil coating that will slow down the etching process.

    • @TheDadPenfield
      @TheDadPenfield Рік тому

      Thanks for the reply. I have had some metal that was slow to etch. Maybe cleaning with simple green would have helped. Everything that this acid touches rusts very quickly. I will try Krud Kutter.

    • @hopelessnerd6677
      @hopelessnerd6677 Рік тому

      @@TheDadPenfield Krud Kutter is getting hard to find around here. It's basically just phosphoric acid, so there are probably other things like it. I've seen some with monobutyl ether added, which is what simple green mostly is. I can't wait to try this method. I'm off to buy a piece of 2" PVC tomorrow! No more wasted flap discs for me.

    Wow, impressive demosntration! How do you make sure the braze goes in between? Is it possible to give both ends a very thin braze, then join them and heat them together? Or would that be unnecessary? I assume that the thinner the braze between the parts, the better the shear-resistance.

    • @TheDadPenfield
      @TheDadPenfield 2 роки тому

      Leon Da. The melted brazing material goes in between the metals by capillary action. It is pulled into the joint. The thinner the braze, the stronger the union. If you brazed each part first, the properties of the melted brass would change and you would not get a good bond. You can put slivers of brazing material between the two metals and then heat, but you run the risk of heating and melting the brazing material before heating the parent metal and not getting a good bond.

    Awesome!! THANK YOU! I’ve been struggling with this situation and finally figured out I needed some sort of pulley system but was clueless as to how to do it. I’ve just been leaving my stairs down since I frequently access my attic storage over the garage, but a neighbor’s cat climbed it once when the garage door was opened and I wasn’t looking. It didn’t want to come down and hid in an inaccessible area what was not floored. I also worry that vermin might climb the stairs if they figure out a way to get under the garage door.

    • @TheDadPenfield

      I don’t plow so I don’t have experience with the draft control. I do know that these tractors have a pin that wears and makes the arms go up instead of staying in place. This can be worse if you are using draft control. I need to fix mine, but have not got around to it yet.

    • @TheDadPenfield
      @TheDadPenfield 3 роки тому

      40 feet if rope. You will have some left over. Get some deck screws or construction screws. Length is 1.5 inches. Size is probably #9. Bring your pulley and make sure the screws are small enough to fit into the holes. Get some washers for the screws. Go to a hardware store and they will help you.

      One place that helped me was Tractor Supply. Hidden way in the back behind rows and rows of dog food is a single row of tractor supplies. They have a very nice picture of the back end of an old tractor with parts and attachments identified. You should take a picture of it and study it. I ask a lot of questions on tractor forum. It has an app. I also use yesterdays tractor forum and buy parts from there. Messicks has an app that I use for parts diagrams.

    Re: the strap in the tree. I tied a string to a rock and threw the rock over a branch. I pulled a rope over the branch using the string and then pulled the strap with the rope. The hardest part is getting the rock to go where you want it. I tried shooting an arrow with a string attached and that of course failed.
